Biography

I am Kaitlin, the artisan of Braid Away. You can call me Kait! I am not just an artisan, I am also a working actress and theatre educator. Braid Away bloomed from this part of my life. I've always been a creative person off stage; repurposing and upcycling. I remember randomly coming up with an idea and just started cutting fabrics and braiding them, which then turned into what I called Wrap Bracelets at the time. In Spring 2018 I was cast in the 1960s musical HAIR in Columbus, OH where I was asked to incorporate my Wrap Bracelets into the production shots. I had many made, so I brought them into rehearsal to give out to the cast as gifts not knowing they were going to be such a hit. They continued wearing their Wrap Bracelets to rehearsals every day making it our tribal statement piece. That led to the theatre company wanting me to sell them as merchandise through the run of the show! (Shout out to Short North Stage!) During this time, one of my good friends encouraged me to call them Wraplets. Here we are! Braid Away has come to fruition, and I am so excited to continue giving love to discarded and unwanted clothing.
